CBC Radio special: "The Screw that Changed the World"

2011-11-14

CBC Radio has posted to its website a recent broadcast on the history of standards, called “The Screw that Changed the World”. The story, originally aired on the show Ideas, takes the listener on a captivating journey through standardization, from the design of the first standardized screw in 1841, to the development of the world’s most modern corporate responsibility standards. The story also presents such fascinating anecdotes as the VHS / Betamax standards war, and how shipping standards allowed Sony, Honda and other Asian companies to enter North-American markets in the 1970s.
