SCC cited as key stakeholder in cross-border harmonization plan

2011-09-26

Following a period of public consultation, the Canada-United States Regulatory Cooperation Council (RCC) has identified the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) as a key stakeholder in RCC’s efforts to simplify and align Canadian and American regulatory approaches. By mandating SCC and its American counterpart to develop a standards and conformity assessment harmonization agenda, the RCC hopes to lower consumer costs, increase trade and create new jobs on both sides of the border.

The Canada-United States Regulatory Cooperation Council was formally announced by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and President Barack Obama on February 4, 2011 and intends to release its Joint Action Plan in fall 2011.
