Government to publish draft regulations based on standard for blood and blood components

2011-07-20

Health Canada has announced that it is preparing to hear from the Canadian public about its new regulations covering the safety, quality and effectiveness of blood products. The department intends to publish the draft of its Blood Regulations in the Canada Gazette Part I within the 2011 calendar year, at which point stakeholders will have 75 days to submit their comments.

The draft regulations reference the latest version of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standard for blood and blood components (CSA Z902). CSA is one of four organizations that the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) accredits to develop standards in Canada.
