New Chief Financial Officer joins SCC Management Team

Ottawa, Ontario (September 14, 2010) – The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Sylvie C. Lafontaine to the position of Chief Financial Officer (Treasurer and Director of Administration). Ms. Lafontaine is a results-oriented executive with over 25 years of business experience in both private and public sector organizations.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Sylvie to our management team. Her background and expertise will be a valuable complement to the organization as we move forward,” commented John Walter, SCC’s Executive Director.

Before joining the SCC, Ms. Lafontaine held the positions of General Manager, Corporate Strategy, General Manager, Office of the Chief Operating Officer and General Manager, Operations Finance with the Canada Post Corporation, as well as the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Assistant Deputy Minister, Finance, Administration & Corporate Services with Service Canada (part of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC)).

As SCC’s Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Lafontaine is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of the SCC’s finance, administration, information services, and translation departments. With her extensive experience in strategy, financial management and administration, information systems and technology, research information management, organizational design, culture and change management and human resources, Ms. Lafontaine’s background is well-suited to her new role.

Ms. Lafontaine also brings a private sector view to the SCC gained through experience at the Royal Bank of Canada in the roles of Senior Manager and Senior Assistant Corporate Secretary and Manager, Regulatory Reporting, Finance and roles as part of the Audit practice at Ernst and Young.

She is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Administration with a specialization in accounting from the Université du Québec en Outaouais.
