SCC recognizes outstanding contributions to standardization

Ottawa, Ontario (October 15, 2010) – The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) honoured the recipients of its 2010 SCC Awards at a ceremony held yesterday in Ottawa at the Canadian War Museum.

“Canada’s standardization community can only exist as a result of the work of the volunteers who participate in national, regional and international standardization efforts,” said SCC Chairman Hugh Krentz. “As a community and as a nation, we all benefit from their accomplishments, and for that we offer our sincere thanks.”

The long-standing Jean P. Carrière Award, first introduced in 1969, was presented to Dr. Maurice Douek in recognition of the distinguished contributions made throughout his career to standardization in Canada.

The Standards Council also paid tribute to Graham J. Cameron with the Roy A. Phillips Award. Created in 2001, the award recognizes Mr. Cameron for Canadian contributions to international standardization.

George S. K. Wong posthumously received the Leadership Award which recognizes notable contributions made by the chair or convenor of an advisory or technical committee.

The McMahon Dedicated Service Award, which recognizes notable contributions made by Standards Council of Canada personnel, went to Darryl Kingston for his dedication and involvement with standardization.

The Award of Excellence was presented to Wael Badawy in recognition of remarkable contributions made, in the video technology field, to Canada’s standardization community.

Maureen O’Neill was the recipient of the SCC Distinguished Service Award, honouring her commitment to the development and promotion of standards for pulp and paper.
CSA’s Technical committee B51 was presented with the SCC Special Achievement Award for their notable contributions to developing standards for Boilers, Pressure Vessels and Pressure Piping.

The Corporate Commitment Award went to two recipients: the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), for contributions and commitments made in support of standardization activities nationally and internationally.
