Web Content Display Product Certification FAQsQuestions frequently asked (FAQs) of the Standards Council of Canada, about product certification: Asset Publisher Q: When are Other Recognized Documents (ORDs) developed?A:An Other Recognized Document (ORD) is developed when a new product, which is not covered by an existing recognized Canadian standard, requires acceptance by (for example) a Regulatory Authority or an industry association. A certification body will develop an ORD to quickly establish performance and health and safety requirements so that the product may be certified. ORDs provide a level of safety or performance that is similar to that of existing standards for similar functions. In time, an ORD is normally incorporated into, or replaced by a recognized standard. The process for developing and maintaining ORDs is specified in CAN-P-1500.
