Report of SC34/WG2

1. Font Services
[Project JTC1.34.33]

In accordance with the approved disposition of comments (SC34 N0070), Project editor created the final text of TR 15413: Font Services - Abstract Service Definition, and forwarded it to the SC34 Secretariat for publication. The final text has been posted to the SC34 Web as SC34 N0108.

2. AM3 to ISO/IEC 9541-1: Multilingual extensions to font resource architecture
[Project JTC1.34.27.01.03]

PDAM3 text (SC34 N0071) was circulated for ballot with target date 18 August 1999. It was approved as reported in SC34 N0094: Summary of Voting on SC34 N0071. SC34/WG2 will review the comments, and develop a disposition of comments and a new text for DAM processing during the Philadelphia meeting.

This amendment is basically based on user requirements for non-Latin document processing, in particular, the East Asian document processing. Most of East Asian countries, unfortunately, are not P-members of SC34 and have no enough chance to provide their comments and contributions.

Project editor took an advantage of his position in CJK-DOCP(China/Japan/Korea Document Processing Meeting) and MLIT(International Symposium on Standardization of Multilingual Information Technology) to get the following opportunities to discuss about this amendment.

Particularly in MLIT-4, Project editor made a presentation of the PDAM3 text and discussion with font experts from Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines and Thailand. Their comments cannot be formal ballot comments but should be recognized as valuable ones of actual future users of this amendment.

3. AM1 to ISO/IEC 9541-2: Support for font technology advances
[Project JTC1.34.27.02.01]

PDAM3 text (SC34 N0072) was circulated for ballot with target date 18 August 1999. It was approved as reported in SC34 N0095: Summary of Voting on SC34 N0072. SC34/WG2 will review the comments, and develop a disposition of comments and an new text for DAM processing during the Philadelphia meeting.

4. AM1 to ISO/IEC 9541-1: Font typeface grouping system in Annex A.
[Project JTC1.34.27.01.01]

Project editor has collected most of the typeface examples in an electronic form. The final text will soon be forwarded to the SC34 Secretariat, according to the item 3 of SC34 N0019.

5. DSSSL Amendments
[Project JTC1.34.15.06.01]

There were online discussions for DSSSL amendments. Canadian National Body wishes to initiate a DSSSL amendment to create a new "DSSS-2" and dispatch an expert to SC34/WG2 for discussion. If the activity will start, a DSSSL expert from Next Solution Japan will be able to join it.
