Role

As Vice-President of the Standards Council of Canada’s (SCC) Accreditation Services, Mr. Cross oversees the operation and development of various accreditation and recognition programs, such as the program for the accreditation of product certification bodies and the program for the accreditation of laboratories.

Professional Background

Mr. Cross initially began his career at SCC as Senior Program Officer for the Accreditation of Laboratories/Canada (PALCAN). He was subsequently appointed Manager of Certification Body Accreditation in 2003 and Directory of Conformity Assessment / Accreditation Services in 2009. Before joining SCC, Mr. Cross was Technical Manager for Environmental Choice, a product certification program leading to Canada’s eco-label. He also worked as a technical underwriter in the commercial insurance industry, which involved applying quality management principles to manage risk.

Education

Mr. Cross has a Master of Business Administration degree and a bachelor’s degree in bio-chemistry, both from McGill University. He also holds a master’s degree in Environmental Studies from York University.
