Textiles (CAC/ISO/TC 38) [campaign closed]

There is a growing impact of standards on global commerce and the potential for standards to either facilitate or impede international trade.  As trade barriers have lowered (through trade agreements such as NAFTA and WTO) the focus has changed from the development of national standards to regional and international standards with subsequent adoption in Canada, adjusted for unique Canadian conditions.  The development of standards, arrived at through international consensus, facilitates trade and ensures free and equitable access to international markets.  An International Standard embodies the essential principles of global openness and transparency, consensus and technical coherence.

International standards in the area of textiles are developed by the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 38 and various sub-committees.  The Canadian Advisory Committees (CAC) to ISO/TC 38 and its subcommittees, are responsible for providing the Canadian input to the International Standards in the area of Textiles.
