Opportunity to participate on the committee for the development of a guidance standard on Consumer product recall and corrective action: Code of good practice

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking interested parties representing industry, regulators and consumers to participate on its committee for the development of a guidance standard on Consumer product recall and corrective action: Code of good practice

In today’s global marketplace, where products routinely cross borders, organizations face significant challenges in implementing and managing a global recall.  While a number of countries have regulatory requirements which provide guidance on how to manage a recall within their borders, many others do not. These inconsistent practices have led to gaps in consumer protection at the national and international levels.

The proposed standard seeks to provide an effective tool for implementing a recall process.

Scope of work

  • Provide a model code of good practice for consumer product recalls, with associated corrective actions, including repair, placement, repurchase and public notice; and
  • Cover principles and provide practical guidance in establishing, implementing and managing an effective, flexible and responsive consumer product corrective action/recall program.

The Standards Council of Canada is looking for technical experts that would like to participate in the review and drafting of this standard.

Deadline for submission

Interested parties should submit their Curriculum Vitae along with a statement outlining their interests and ability to contribute to the work of this committee by December 10, 2007.

Benefits of participation

  • Provides participants with relevant information on emerging trends and changing practices;
  • Exposes committee members to the expertise and research of organizations within similar sectors. This increased knowledge translates into enhanced designs and new ideas;
  • Provides individuals with opportunities to gain valuable skills and knowledge; and
  • Incorporating voluntary standards into regulation lessens the burden of regulatory compliance on industry, and allows governments to contribute to increased economic growth and competitiveness.
