Call for comments: Proposal to develop a new ISO field of activity on energy management systems

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking comments on a proposal submitted by the Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for a new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) field of technical activity on the subject of energy management systems standards (MSS).

According to the proposal, the growing global constraints on energy supply and the significance of energy efficiency in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions deem advancements in energy management system standards necessary. The purpose of the MSS is to provide organizations with an international standard specification and guidance document in the area of energy management.

Scope of the proposed work:

The proposal encompasses standardization in the field of energy management including:

  • energy supply;
  • procurement practices;
  • energy using equipment and systems;
  • energy use; and
  • any use-related disposal issues.

The new standard will address measurement of current energy usage, and implementation of a measurement system to document, report and validate continuous improvement in the area of energy management.

For more information on this proposed field of activity, or to submit comments, or to express your interest in developing a standard in this area, please contact Lynne Gibbens, Senior Program Officer ISO via email, [email protected] or by telephone +1 613 238 3222 ext. 452.

The deadline for comments is December 31, 2007.
