Opportunity to participate on committee developing standards for Solid Biofuels (CAC/ISO/TC 238)

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking interested parties representing industry, regulators and consumers to participate in its Canadian committee on the development of a new international standard for solid biofuels (CAC/ISO/TC 238).

Scope of work

Increased levels of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere are boosting the demand for alternative renewable energy sources. Solid biofuels represent a viable solution. The new standard would address solid biofuels within the scope of:

  • products from agriculture and forestry;
  • vegetable waste from agriculture, forestry and the food processing industry;
  • wood waste; and
  • fibrous vegetable waste from virgin pulp production, and some production of paper from pulp and cork waste.

Deadline for submission

Interested parties should submit their Curriculum Vitae along with a statement outlining their interests and ability to contribute to the work of CAC/ISO/TC 238 by February 15, 2008.

Benefits of participation

  • Provides participants with relevant information on emerging trends and changing practices;
  • Exposes committee members to the expertise and research of organizations within similar sectors. This increased knowledge translates into enhanced designs and new ideas;
  • Provides individuals with opportunities to gain valuable skills and knowledge; and
  • Incorporating voluntary standards into regulation lessens the burden of regulatory compliance on industry, and allows governments to contribute to increased economic growth and competitiveness.
