Call for Interest: Proposals for new field of technical activity - Guidance for stakeholder engagement

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking feedback from affected stakeholders on the development of a new international standard on Guidance for stakeholder engagement submitted by the Technical Management Board of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

This proposed standard is to provide guidance on identifying and encouraging effective stakeholder engagement, with the aim of providing an informed basis for an organization’s decisions in all types of projects.  It would provide a methodology for the identification of actual and potential stakeholders, and provide guidance on best practices for involving the different interest groups in an organizations decision making process.

Scope of the proposed work:

This standard will cover principles and provide practical guidance in the following areas:

  • Planning, designing, communicating and implementing a timely and proactive engagement activity; and,
  • Provide guidance on what should be considered before a decision is made to undertake a consultation process.

For more information, or to submit comments including support for or opposition to the proposals, please contact Lynne Gibbens, Senior Program Officer ISO via email, [email protected] or by telephone +1 613 238 3222 ext. 452.

All comments submitted to SCC will be considered to generate a recommended Canadian position and comments on these proposals.

The deadline for submission is July 15, 2009.
