Call for comments: Proposal to develop a new ISO field of activity on solid biofuels

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking comments on a proposal submitted by the Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) for a new field of technical activity on the subject of solid biofuels.

According to the proposal submitted to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), increased levels of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere are boosting the demand for alternative renewable energy sources. According to SIS, solid biofuels represent a viable solution.

Scope of the proposed work:

The new field of activity would address solid biofuels within the scope of:

  • products from agriculture and forestry;
  • vegetable waste from agriculture, forestry and the food processing industry; wood waste;
  • fibrous vegetable waste from virgin pulp production, and some production of paper from pulp; and
  • cork waste.

For more information on this proposed field of activity, or to submit comments, please contact Lynne Gibbens, Senior Program Officer ISO, via email [email protected]  or by telephone +1 613 238 3222 ext. 452.

The deadline for comments is September 10, 2007.
