Asset Publisher Leading the Charge in Standardization2011-02-03Representatives from various major car manufacturers were offered a platform today to discuss existing and proposed international standards for the charging systems used by Electric Vehicle (EV). The future of these vehicles is dependant on how quickly standardization can achieve a global technology roll-out and establish a durable infrastructure without the market fragmentation that would result from incompatible technologies. The round table event held in Washington, DC, included the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and e8, a global non-profit organization comprised of 10 leading electricity companies. Discussions culminated in a set of priorities for developing EV-related standards including the accelerated use of broad adaptations of relevant standardization schemes that enable global interoperability and connectivity.
