New IEC standard to enhance product safety

Publication by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) of the standard, Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment - Part 1: Safety requirements (IEC 62368-1), marks a shift in approach from reactive to proactive, and from a product-based to a generic, systems approach. The standard, IEC 62368-1 is expected to enhance product safety over time so that new separate standards will not have to be developed every time technology changes in the market.
