Ernie Briard appointed Vice-President, Finance and Corporate Management

Ottawa, Ontario (January 6, 2012)—The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ernie Briard to the position of Vice-President, Finance and Corporate Management.

“Given his extensive experience in financial and strategic performance management, Ernie is well-suited for this role,” said John Walter, SCC’s Chief executive Officer. “He will be key in helping drive operational efficiency and productivity.”

Ernie brings to SCC more than 20 years of senior-level financial management experience, garnered from both the public and private sectors. As SCC’s Vice-President, Finance and Corporate Management, Ernie will be responsible for the operations of the Finance and Corporate Management Branch, including financial management, business analytics, information technology, corporate administration and human resources. Together with Sylvie Lafontaine, SCC’s Vice-President, Standards and Chief Financial Officer, Ernie will continue to develop and implement strategic business improvements already underway.

Before joining the organization – and following a successful career with Nortel Networks – Ernie established himself as an independent financial management consultant. In that capacity, he provided strategic support and advisory services to senior federal government officials and to private corporations. Ernie’s areas of expertise include financial management and reporting, internal audit, internal controls, and performance management.

Ernie is a chartered accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Honours degree, from Carleton University.
