McMahon Dedicated Service Award: 2008

Mr. Claude Potvin

Since he started working at the Standards Council of Canada in 1990 as a clerk in the organization’s mail room, Claude Potvin has played a vital role in keeping the office running smoothly.

As the SCC’s Web coordinator, Mr. Potvin helps keep the organization’s online presence operational and strong. He is often called upon by his colleagues to sort out various computer-related problems, even those unrelated to the Internet; he never fails to respond to a request, find the problem, and solve it.

That he has such a vast knowledge of the Internet, and computers in general, is a testament to Mr. Potvin’s persistence and focus. Having been promoted to the Information and Research Services division, Mr. Potvin’s interest in computers grew. He gained further knowledge about desktop computers from other MIS staff and through after-hours training. When SCC began considering building a presence on the Internet, Mr. Potvin took it upon himself to learn HTML programming in order to have the skills to support the corporation’s web site.

His work has since expanded to offering Member Program training on Sitescape to registered users of SCC’s Forums (extranet environment).

Mr. Potvin’s contributions through support of staff and clients make him the ideal candidate for the McMahon Dedicated Service Award.
