Ms. Maureen O’Neill

Throughout her career of 38 years at Paprican (now FPInnovations), Maureen has played a major role in developing new methods for evaluating the appearance attributes of paper, and for measuring residual ink in recycled paper. She has published 17 papers in the areas of optical properties of paper, printing and surface characterization. Maureen started her work in the area of standardization in 1980 as a member of the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association’s Testing Methods Committee and as an expert on its Optical Subcommittee. She also served as Secretary of this Committee for a number of years. In 2002, she received an Honorary Life Membership Award by the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada Standards Methods Committee “for many years of outstanding contribution and dedication”. In addition, Maureen was a member of the TAPPI Optical Properties committee and chaired a working group that developed the first automated dirt-counting method for paper and pulp. In 2006, she became the Secretary of ISO/TC6 (Pulp, Paper, and Board), and has been responsible for the development and review of all ISO standards related to pulp, paper and board.
