Hugh Krentz appointed to Order of Canada

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC)'s immediate past Chairman Hugh Krentz has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. A resident of Calgary, Alberta, Mr. Krentz was appointed for his work in engineering. The Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, made the announcement on December 30, 2011.   More than 60 prominent Canadians are being appointed to the Order of Canada.

In addition to chairing SCC for ten-and-a-half years, Mr. Krentz is a former president of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC). He is also the former chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Steel Construction Council, and former executive director of the Steel Structures Education Foundation. A Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Mr. Krentz has received numerous awards recognizing his contributions to structural engineering and standards development.
