The governing Council is appointed by the federal government, and reports to Parliament through the Minister of Industry.

  • One member from the Standards Development Organizations Advisory Committee
  • Two members from the Provincial-Territorial Advisory Committee
  • Nine others from the private sector, including non-governmental organizations

Profile of Council Members

  • Executive level experience in a national or regional industry or an organization that serves public interests (i.e.: consumer, labour, environmental academic, operations of a commercial business in a key economic sector)
  • Experience in global trends and international relations that affect standardization
  • Financial literacy
  • An understanding of corporate governance and its processes
  • An awareness of federal-provincial activities with standards and regulations
  • Ability to liaise with a wide range of individuals and effectively communicate views to Council
  • Respected leader in his or her field
  • Proven level of commitment, discretion and trust
