Environmental Laboratories

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) offers environmental lab accreditation in accordance with the requirements of the Criteria & Procedure, CAN-P-1585.

Accreditation under the program provides assurance that a given laboratory is competent to carry out environmental tests and enables laboratories to better meet their obligations to regulators. Through international and regional mutual recognition agreements, test results are recognized in many countries outside of Canada.

Approximately 120 parameters can be accredited within the following environmental fields of testing:

  • Inorganics - water
  • Organics - water and soil
  • Occupational Health - air filters
  • Toxicology - water
  • Microbiology - water
  • PCB - oil

Drinking Water Testing under the Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act (OSDWA)

The SCC also offers accreditation to laboratories conducting drinking water testing under the OSDWA.  Under the terms of its agreement with the Ontario provincial government, the SCC assesses the ability of laboratories to perform drinking water tests, and is solely responsible for approval of their accreditation.
