Transition to CAN-P-16:2011 (ISO/IEC 17021:2011)

CAN-P-16:2011 (available soon) is an adoption of ISO/IEC 17021:2011, which is an international standard for the certification of management systems. CAN-P-16:2011 outlines new requirements for the third-party auditing of management systems and the competence of personnel involved in the certification process, and provides a framework for the further development of competence criteria.

Transition Deadline

Certification bodies accredited to ISO/IEC 17021 must identify and implement required changes within their systems to ensure conformity to CAN-P-16:2011 by February 1, 2013.

Auditing and Verification

SCC will verify implementation of CAN-P-16:2011 during normally scheduled surveillance activities. SCC plans to conduct all on-site audit activities by October 31, 2012 to ensure sufficient time is available for the resolution of non-conformities prior to the transition deadline.

Prior to Audit

Prior to the on-site audit, certification bodies must complete the CAN-P-16 conformity matrix (document no. F93.1.1.C1). The matrix lists procedural documents that certification bodies must maintain in order to achieve SCC accreditation. Electronic copies of all referenced documents must be submitted to SCC by October 31, 2011.
