Occupational health and safety management systems

The Standards Council of Canada accredits certification bodies that assess and certify occupational health and safety management systems to the following standards:

  • CAN/CSA Z1000, from the Canadian Standards Association;
  • ANSI Z10, from the American National Standards Institute;
  • BSI 18001, from the British Standards Institute.

Occupational health and safety management systems provide a framework for managing an organization’s occupational health and safety responsibilities. They enable organizations to:

  • improve health and safety performance; and
  • reduce or prevent injuries, illnesses and fatalities.
