Q: How does the Standards Council of Canada oversee the organizations it accredits for continued adherence to the requirements of accreditation?

A:

After the initial accreditation process is complete, depending on the type of programs or services they offer, the organization may be subject to:

  • Annual audits of facilities and programs
  • Random verification visits
  • Proficiency testing (for laboratories)
  • Re-assessments (all accredited organizations must have their accreditation re-assessed by the SCC every four years)

Specific practices for each accreditation program are set out in the Criteria and Procedure documents (CAN-Ps) for each accreditation program.
