Q: What is the Standards Council of Canada's role in management system standards (i.e. ISO 9001 & ISO 14001)?

A: As the Canadian member body of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Standards Council coordinates Canada's participation in the development of the ISO 9000 series of quality management system standards.

The Standards Council holds the secretariats for both the ISO technical committee responsible for ISO 9001 (ISO/TC 176) and ISO 14001 (ISO/TC 207) . The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) manages the secretariats on behalf of the Standards Council.

As the Canadian accreditation body, the Standards Council operates accreditation programs for management system certification bodies.  It also takes part in international agreements intended to ensure foreign recognition of Canadian management system certifications.
